The Florida Orchestra ’01-02 masterworks schedule

Here's the lineup of artists and repertoire for the Florida Orchestra's 2001-02 masterworks season:

Sept. 21-23: Nielsen: Maskerade overture; Beethoven: Symphony No. 2; Rodrigo: Concierto de Aranjuez; Rimsky-Korsakov: Capriccio Espagnol. Michael Christie, conductor; Marija Temo, guitar.

Oct. 4-7: Argento: Valentino Dances; Rachmaninoff: Piano Concerto No. 1; Tchaikovsky: Symphony No. 5. Theo Alcantara, conductor; Stewart Goodyear, piano.

Oct. 19-21: Liadov: Kikimora; Dvorak: Cello Concerto; Shostakovich: Symphony No. 5. Jahja Ling, conductor; Daniel Lee, cello.

Nov. 2-4: Rossini: Italian Girl in Algiers overture; Beethoven: Piano Concerto No. 3; Mozart: Concerto for Two Pianos; Bartok: Suite from The Miraculous Mandarin. Jahja Ling, conductor and piano; Jessie Chang, piano; Gabriel Ling, piano.

Jan. 4-6: Schuman: American Festival overture; Strauss: Burleske; Schubert: Symphony No. 9. Jahja Ling, conductor; Lilya Zilberstein, piano.

Jan. 24-27: Wagner: Die Meistersinger overture; Brahms: Violin Concerto; Mussorgsky/Ravel: Pictures at an Exhibition. Pavel Kogan, conductor; Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg, violin.

Jan. 31-Feb. 3: Rimsky-Korsakov: Russian Easter overture; Sibelius: Symphony No. 1; Rachmaninoff: Piano Concerto No. 2. Jahja Ling, conductor; Lang Lang, piano.

Feb. 22-24: Sibelius: Pohjola's Daughter; Wieniawski: Violin Concerto No. 2; Elgar: Symphony No. 1. Jahja Ling, conductor; Amy Schwartz, violin.

March 8-10: Bach: Orchestral Suite No. 1; Francaix: Flower Clock; Brahms: Symphony No. 4. Stefan Sanderling, conductor; Martin Hebert, oboe.

March 22-24: Verdi: Requiem. Jahja Ling, conductor; Master Chorale of Tampa Bay.

April 13-15: Verdi: La Forza del Destino overture; Mendelssohn: Symphony No. 4; Saint-Saens: Violin Concerto No. 3; Ravel: La Valse. Dmitry Sitkovetsky, conductor; Elmar Oliveira, violin.

April 26-28: Mahler: Symphony No. 3. Jahja Ling, conductor; Janice Taylor, mezzo-soprano; Women of the Master Chorale; Tampa Bay Children's Chorus/Averill Summer, artistic director.

May 10-12: Honegger: Pacific 231; Rozsa: Violin Concerto; Schumann: Symphony No. 3. Thomas Wilkins, conductor; Robert McDuffie, violin.

May 17-19: Grieg: Piano Concerto; Gershwin: Concerto in F; Tchaikovsky: Piano Concerto No. 1. Thomas Wilkins, conductor; Janina Fialkowska, piano; Jon Kimura Parker, piano; Andre-Michel Schub, piano.

There is also a special concert of Handel's Messiah with the Master Chorale and vocal soloists on Dec. 28 and 29. Schedules for the orchestra's pops and coffee concerts and other series will be announced later.
