RIDGE MANOR -- The American Lung Association is planning a Clean Air Bike Ride along the beautiful Withlacoochee State Trail, listed in National Geographic's "Top 20 Bike Trails".
The ride will take place March 31 -- rain or shine. Riders may start between 7 and 9 a.m. The ride begins at the Ridge Manor Trail Head of the Withlacoochee State Trail and winds through Pasco, Hernando and Citrus counties.
The trail head is a mile east of Interstate 75 at State Road 50 (exit 61) near Brooksville. Participants may choose a 12-, 20-, 48- or 100-mile route.
The cost is $20 ($10 for children 12 and under), which includes a T-shirt, continental breakfast, light lunch and SAG snacks.
Event T-shirts are guaranteed to riders registered by March 19. Walk-up registrations include T-shirts if available. Incentives are given for raising additional pledges. All registrants are entered in a drawing for a Schwinn mountain bike donated by Action Wheel Sport of St. Petersburg.
All proceeds support the American Lung Association of Gulfcoast Florida's local programs and patient services, including Asthma Summer Camp, a weeklong summer camp for children with asthma. Children ages 7 to 12 enjoy games, crafts, swimming and active sports, while learning to control their asthma with confidence.
To receive a registration form, call (727) 347-6133 or 1 (800) 771-5863. Those who register will receive packets with information on local special events and camping facilities. Registration also may be done electronically by clicking on the Clean Air Bike Ride logo on ALA's home page at www.gulflunl.org.
