ST. LOUIS -- The win didn't matter. The Blues lost the league MVP for the rest of the season.
Chris Pronger broke his left forearm when struck by a clearing pass by teammate Alexander Khavanov in the Blues' 7-2 win Monday night over the Sharks.
Pronger, hurt 9:34 into the first period, was in his second game back after missing 15 because of knee surgery.
It's the latest blow for the Blues, who also are without defenseman Al MacInnis and forwards Pavol Demitra and Michal Handzus.
"You're demoralized, but what are you going to do?" St. Louis general manager Larry Pleau said. "We'll deal with it the best way we can."
Marty Reasoner doubled his season total by scoring two goals, and Jochen Hecht also scored twice for St. Louis, which matched a season high for goals. The Blues had been outscored 18-9 the previous five games.
It was the most this season against the Sharks, who have allowed the fewest in the league (137).
SENATORS 3, RANGERS 2: Daniel Alfredsson scored the winner into an open left side of the net with 3:11 left for host Ottawa. He converted a rebound of Alexei Yashin's shot. Mark Messier scored his 20th goal of the season, the 17th time he has reached that figure.
DEVILS 5, PANTHERS 3: John Madden scored a short-handed goal with 4:48 left for host New Jersey, which completed a four-game sweep of Florida this season. New Jersey won for the second time in 10 games (2-5-3).
CANUCKS 5, WILD 2: Brendan Morrison had a goal and an assist for visiting Vancouver, which scored twice in the first five minutes.
USA Today reported that Maple Leafs defenseman Bryan Berard has given up on returning from a severe eye injury. He is unable to see anything beyond shapes in his injured eye and could not make the league's vision requirement. He was injured March 11 when Marian Hossa's stick hit him in the right eye during Toronto's game against Ottawa. Berard won the Calder Trophy in 1997 with the Islanders.
COYOTES: The agent for Nikolai Khabibulin said Phoenix will trade the holdout goaltender. Jay Grossman said he was told of the decision by general manager Cliff Fletcher after Phoenix signed goalie Sean Burke to a three-year contract extension.
FLYERS: Simon Gagne, the team's leading goal scorer with 27, will miss three weeks with a dislocated shoulder. He was injured Saturday against the Lightning while throwing a punch at Andrei Zyuzin in the second period.
SABRES: Right wing Vaclav Varada, who suffered a concussion in a collision Sunday with Tampa Bay's Grant Ledyard, will miss Buffalo's five-game road trip.
SENATORS: Forward Andre Roy was suspended for two games for pursuing Vancouver's Donald Brashear in a stadium corridor after a game. Roy had lost a fight to Brashear in Ottawa's 3-0 win Saturday over the Canucks.
AWARD: Avalanche center Peter Forsberg was named player of the week after leading the league with 12 points.
