Soccer

More Power to you

The best chance to see Springstead alumna Jenny O'Sullivan play in person this season in the Women's United Soccer Association will be in her first game, when the New York Power plays at Atlanta on April 21. Atlanta is the closest she'll come to home because there is no franchise in Florida.

That would have been different had the Carolina franchise not been moved from Tampa/Orlando early in the league's creation.

The April 21st game will also be televised on TNT, the first of six televised Power games. Other New York telecasts include: at Boston, 6 p.m., June 3 on CNNSI; vs. Bay Area, 6 p.m., June 10 on CNNSI; vs. Philadelphia, 6 p.m., June 17 on CNNSI; at Bay Area, 6 p.m. July 8 on CNNSI; at Washington, noon, Aug. 11 on TNT.

Softball

Nice start, kid

Apparently this college thing isn't that hard.

Former Central High standout Jennifer Pape threw a no-hitter and hit two home runs as Rollins College whipped Warner Southern 8-0 on Feb. 22.

Pape drove in four runs in a doubleheader sweep.

Through eight innings in two appearances, Pape is 2-0 and has allowed one hit.

She was 8-for-16 in six games as a hitter entering another doubleheader against Warner Southern on Tuesday.

Pape was an All-Hernando/Citrus first-team pitcher after finishing 13-5 with a 0.61 earned-run average and 234 strikeouts last spring.

Her Rollins teammate and twin sister, Jamie, is 4-for-11 after missing two games with a shoulder injury.

Tennis

Leopards boys win

Hernando High got singles wins from Andrew Sufficool, Eric Frechette and Brent Lowman on Thursday to defeat Crystal River, 5-2.

No. 1 Sufficool defeated John Wang, 6-1, 6-2; No. 2 Frechette downed Bret Bienkowski, 7-5, 6-2; and No. 5 Lowman trumped Mike Domingo, 6-1, 6-2.

The Leopards' top doubles team of Sufficool-Frechette beat Wang-Chris Grillo and their No. 2 of Joshua Vasquez-Drew Taylor defeated Domingo-Tony Domingo.
