While he lay sleeping in his semitrailer truck Sunday night outside the Flying J travel plaza, 29933 State Road 52, thieves hacked off the padlock to his truck and swiped part of his shipment. The loot? Twenty-three cases of Natural Light beer. Whitehead told sheriff's deputies he went to sleep around 9 p.m. He said another trucker woke him up Monday morning and told him there were cases of beer around the back of his truck. After taking the beer, he said, the suspects apparently stuck around to drink a few and left a few damaged cases before fleeing in an unknown direction. Whitehead listed the total value of the lost or damaged cases as $375. Deputies had no suspects. Spring Hill man accused of fondling 7-year-oldNEW PORT RICHEY -- A 67-year-old man was charged with involuntary sexual battery after Pasco County sheriff's deputies said he fondled a 7-year-old girl on Feb. 5. Deputies arrested John Fredric Whitehead of 15001 Loma Ave., Spring Hill, on Monday afternoon. According to a report, the girl had a medical exam that revealed an injury consistent with sexual abuse. Whitehead was released from the county jail in Land O'Lakes on Monday on $50,000 bail. Authorities would not disclose the relationship between the girl and Whitehead. Holiday man faces charges in string of bank robberiesNEW PORT RICHEY -- A man arrested over the weekend in connection with a string of bank robberies was formally charged Monday. Darrin Charles Dillon, 37, of 5103 Cape Cod Drive, Holiday, was arrested Sunday by St. Petersburg police. Authorities said they think he robbed seven banks in Pasco and Pinellas counties. On Monday, Dillon was charged with robbing the Bank of America at 2123 U.S. 19 in Holiday on Feb. 20; the SouthTrust Bank at 3535 U.S. 19 in New Port Richey on Feb. 15; and the Republic Bank at 6500 Massachusetts Ave. in New Port Richey on Feb. 13. Dillon was being held at the county jail in Land O'Lakes in lieu of $780,000 bail.
