Alpha "A Beginning" Inc., 701 Fifth Ave. N, St. Petersburg, is looking for front office assistants and other support workers to help with providing services to homeless pregnant women and teens, new mothers and families experiencing crisis pregnancies. For information, call 822-8190.

Gulf Coast Community Care of Pinellas County, 14041 ICOT Blvd., Clearwater, is looking for volunteers for Adopt-A-Grandchild and Linking Lifetimes, two programs linking adults with children from single-parent, low-income homes.

The Adopt-A-Grandchild program matches adults with children, ages infancy to 16. The "grandparent," ages 50 or older, would spend two to four hours each week with the child.

The Linking Lifetimes, matches an adult, ages 30 or older, with a child of middle school age -- typically about 10-14 years old.

St. Pete Reads is in need of tutors to work with children in St. Petersburg after-school programs. Materials and a two-hour training session are provided. For information, call Elaine Davis at 893-2988.

The St. Petersburg Branch of the American Red Cross needs volunteer drivers to transport elderly residents to and from their medical appointments in Red Cross vehicles. Volunteers work one day each week from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. For information, call Hub Denison at 898-3111.

The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals of Pinellas County needs weekday volunteers to serve as office assistants for development and fundraising efforts. Duties include answering phones, filing, data entry and mailings. For information, call the SPCA at 586-3591, ext. 110.
