Colonial Bank announces the selection of two new directors in the bay area region. Hamilton E. Hunt Jr. and Thomas E. Johnson join six existing local members on the regional board. Hunt has been active in the commercial real estate sector for the past 18 years. Johnson is a senior vice president with L.J. Melody and Co., and has been active in the Florida commercial real estate market since 1981.

The Child Abuse Council welcomes Deborah Schertz to the staff as the new special events director. She will be responsible for planning special events and fundraisers and will work as a liaison within the council. Schertz received her associate of business degree from the College of Boca Raton, and has experience in special event planning, management and customer relations. She was previously employed as a special events consultant in Palm Beach County.

The law firm of Bavol Bush & Sisco, P.A. welcomes Jay P. Dinan as a shareholder. Joining the firm as an associate attorney in 1999, Dinan practices in the defense of professional liability and nursing homes, as well as having extensive jury trial experience in general negligence actions.

Carlton Fields law firm announces that one of its attorneys, John P. McAdams, has been elected president of the Child Abuse Council. McAdams practices labor and employment law with the firm. He is a graduate of the Wake Forest University School of Law, and has practiced labor and employment law, representing management, his entire career.

David M. Boggs, a shareholder in the Macfarlane Ferguson & McMullen law firm, has been selected president of the Special Operations Memorial Foundation. The memorial, which honors our past, present and future special operations forces in the Army, Navy and Air Force, was dedicated in April 1999. Boggs practices business litigation, mergers and acquisitions, tax litigation and estate planning.

BayStar Hotel Group has opened its first hotel in Tampa. The 86-room hotel is a Hampton Inn and is located north of Tampa International Airport off the Veterans Expressway at Waters Avenue.

GTE Federal Credit Union has selected Joao Silva, ATM manager, as the manager of the year for 2000. Silva has been with the credit union since 1994, and had previously been selected as manager of the quarter for the second quarter 2000. He works in the member services center on Columbus Avenue in Tampa. Cassandra Brown, a loan officer for the south Clearwater branch, 126th Avenue N was selected as the employee of the year for the year 2000. Brown has been employed with the credit union since 1997.

John M. Williams, president of Tampa based Sahlman-Williams Public Relations and Marketing, is the newly elected president of the International Foodservice Editorial Council. Founded in 1956, IFEC is an association of food service communications professionals, including editors of food service industry publications and public relations/marketing executives representing organizations active in food service. Williams will oversee IFEC's fall 2001 annual meeting in Rhode Island.
