Lagedrost spurs Bulls to 7th

BROOKSVILLE -- Hernando High School alum Kelly Lagedrost was a team-best seven-over par Sunday as South Florida finished seventh in the 17-squad Lady Gator Invitational at the University of Florida Golf Course.

The Bulls shot a 54-hole 910 to finish 42 strokes behind winner Auburn. Lagedrost carded a 77-73-73-223 for 18th individually.

Georgia's Summer Sirmons fired a 3-under 73-69-71-213 to capture the title in a playoff over Tennessee's Young-A Yang (76-69-68-213).

Kelly Martin (77-76-74-227) was USF's second-best finisher at 29th, followed by Jessica Hayes, 32nd, (79-73-76-228), Jill Crowe, 65th (78-80-79-237) and Fany Schaeffer, who was disqualified.

South Florida will compete March 19-20 in the Waterlefe Invitational.

Last year, Lagedrost and former Leopard Chrissy Atchison tied for 19th in the event. Lagedrost recorded a 78-76-80-234. Atchison helped Central Florida to fourth place, shooting a 74-80-80-234.

HOLEY COINCIDENCE: Sigrid Komposch, of Ebersbach, Germany, used a 1-wood to ace the 105-yard 12th hole at Rivard on Feb. 21.

The same day, Spring Hill's Mark Thomas used an 8-iron to defeat the hole from the men's tees (125 yards).

SCHOLARSHIP EVENT: A tournament to benefit three local scholarship funds is scheduled for 1 p.m. May 5 at The Dunes. The entry fee is $50 ($60 after April), with proceeds benefitting the Hernando Classroom Teachers Association, Black Educators Caucus and the Mike Bristol/Mike Imhoff scholarships.

The event is sponsored by the Hernando Classroom Teachers' Association.

MORE SCHOLARSHIPS: The Kiwanis Club of Ridge Manor Golf Tournament will be played 1:30 p.m. March 10 at Sherman Hills.

HIGH FIVES: The annual E-How-Kee/Hi-Five Tournament is scheduled for 1 p.m. May 9 at World Woods.

The event benefits the Eckerd Youth Alternatives program for at-risk children. The registration fee is $60 ($65 if received after March 27).

HOLE-IN-ONE: John Rust aced the 134-yard third hole at Heather Golf and Country Club on Feb. 26.

EAGLES AND BIRDIES: The fourth annual Springstead High School Football Boosters Golf Tournament will be played 1 p.m. March 17 at Heritage Pines.
