    A Times Editorial

    Candidate reply

© St. Petersburg Times, published March 1, 2001

EDITOR'S NOTE: The Times offers candidates not recommended by its editorial board the opportunity to reply. This response to the Times' Feb. 25 recommendation of Harriet Crozier in Tuesday's Largo city election was received from candidate Sal Gattuso.

    Sal Gattuso

Thank you for this opportunity to reply to the St. Petersburg Times' editorial endorsement.

I decided to run because I felt we needed a more responsive representative on the Largo City Commission. I believe I can bring a fresh perspective to this important board.

    I pledge to:

Help neighborhoods with quality of life issues like speeders on residential streets and flood prevention.

Bring fiscal responsibility, ask the tough questions and bring strong leadership to the Largo commission.

Work toward giving the people a voice in city government.

I was proud to receive the U.S. Air Force Medal of Valor in 1999 for rescuing two children from a burning building. I have been president of my homeowners association from 1998-2001 and a member of the Largo Code Enforcement Board since 1999. My work with the children of my community has always been a great source of pride to me. I have served as chairman of a benefit for a child with leukemia in 1989, Little League president from 1990 through 1996 and a youth cubmaster from 1987 through 1988.

My commitment is to never lose touch with the voters and to always be accountable to the residents and their concerns.

I would appreciate your vote on Tuesday.
