Girls basketball

The Florida Athletic Coaches Association senior North-South All-Star Game will be played at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Lakeland Center. Catherine DuPont of St. Petersburg Catholic and Qunisha Rush of Lakewood will play on the South team, and Clearwater coach Tom Shaneyfelt will serve as an assistant.

"It was just a chance to get away from St. Pete," Middlebrooks said, "and a chance to start. The coach said I might play right away.

Clearwater Central Catholic defensive lineman Eduardo Sanchez has committed to Lafayette, a Division I-AA school in Easton, Pa. Sanchez (6-2, 260), a first-team All-Pinellas selection, is the second CCC player to commit to Lafayette, joining running back James Sommers.

St. Petersburg Catholic running back/defensive back Larry Woods (6-0, 200) has committed to Bethune-Cookman. Woods, who also played wide receiver and linebacker, helped lead the Barons to the second round of the playoffs.
