Catering to canines
Old Navy Dog Supply launches in Old Navy stores this spring, offering canine toys, fashions (!) and accessories. Today through March 17, while supplies last, stores will give away a Box o' Biscuits with each Old Navy Dog Supply purchase. Throughout the month, the retailer will donate $1 to the American Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals for each Dog Supply purchase at http://www.oldnavy.com.
Carting it away
Don't be surprised to see shopping carts in stores that haven't had them before. America's Research Group of Charleston, S.C., has found that customers who use shopping carts will buy one more item than they had planned to, and that the additional purchase tended to increase the consumer's bill by half. The increase is even more pronounced when it comes to women shopping with children; they are likely to buy twice as much when shopping carts are available, the firm's research showed. Don't plan on wheeling them off premises, however; many retailers now are using carts that have antitheft devices.
