The two strategic aim teams working on technology have made great strides in increasing the amount and quality of technology in our schools and district. This is the third in a series of articles to inform the community on the progress of Citrus County Schools' Strategic Plan. This article targets the two Strategic Aim Implementation Teams working on technology. Aim ID is focused on the use of technology in the classroom. The purpose is to improve the use of computers, software and other technologies as tools for classroom instruction.

The work of this committee is very important as a result of the rapid changes in today's society. Traditionally, the textbook has been considered "the tool" for student learning. However, today, the information in textbooks is often outdated before students receive them. Through improved use of technology, students can find far more information, and certainly more up-to-date information, than ever before. We have recently developed a new series of technology trainings.

To date, nearly two-thirds of our teachers have completed their technology training. The next step is the development of a self-evaluation for teachers to assess how well they are integrating technology as an effective tool for instruction.

The Aim ID team has also developed a set of student technology competencies so they can assess whether students are developing the skills they need for improving their academic performance. These competencies will also be used to assess how well we prepare students for the workplace.

The Implementation Team for Aim 2 is working on improving the effectiveness of our administrators, teachers and support staff through technology training. The goal is to ensure that all employees receive the type and amount of high quality training that meets the demands of their jobs.

The team for Aim 2 has also developed guidelines for employee use of computer equipment and information contained in that equipment. The purpose of this is to make sure that employees use equipment for educational purposes and maintain the security of the information stored. This team is working to update the district technology plan. It is working on a three-year plan that will be revisited frequently to remain current. The next step is to assist schools in incorporating their technology plans into their school improvement plans. This also further supports the use of technology as an important tool for classroom instruction.
