Low water level brings closure of Nobleton ramp

The Hernando County boat ramp at Nobleton, off Lake Lindsey Road, has been closed to the public until further notice due to unsafe conditions from the low water level.

$2 parking fee starts Sunday at Rogers Park

Rogers Park will begin charging the annual peak season parking fee of $2 per vehicle beginning Sunday.

At this time the charge will only be on weekends. The public will be notified when the parking fee goes into effect seven days a week. The fee is applicable between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., but the park remains open 24 hours a day. It will remain in effect until the end of September. Used-book sale store grand opening is Saturday

The Small Bananas Bookcorner announces its grand opening used-book sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the East Hernando Branch Library in the Sunrise Plaza Shopping Center, 31170 Cortez Blvd., Brooksville.

This event is sponsored by the Friends of the Library of Hernando County and features the grand opening of the Small Bananas Bookcorner store. This used-book sale store will be open the first and third Saturday of each month. The second book sale for this month will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 17.

Railroad work closes Cobb Road on Friday

Cobb Road will be closed to through traffic Friday from Yontz Road north to Ponce de Leon Boulevard.

Traffic will be maintained via a signed detour using Yontz Road and Ponce de Leon Boulevard. Cobb Road will be opened Tuesday. The closing is necessary to allow CSX Railroad to replace the railroad crossing. For information, call Andy Palmer at 754-4062.

Applications being taken for kids beauty contest

The 17th annual America's Cover Miss and Cover Boy, USA Baby Contest and Beauty Pageant is accepting applications for entries.

The contest is open to boys ages birth to 5, and girls ages birth to 25. Winners will be eligible to compete for prizes such as $10,000 savings bonds, trophies, gifts, crowns and more. More than $1-million in cash and prizes are awarded in more than 40 states annually. Participants are asked to arrive at the Brooksville Woman's Club, 131 S Main St., Brooksville on March 20. Registration begins at 6 p.m.

Sponsors, teams sought for cancer society relay

The American Cancer Society needs teams and sponsors for its Relay for Life. The relay is a non-competitive event that is designed for participants to have fun while raising money to fight cancer.

Teams consist of 10 to 15 people from businesses, health care organizations, schools, churches, families and civic associations. For 18 hours teammates take turns on the track. The event will take place April 20-21 at the Springstead High School track in Spring Hill. Sponsorship opportunities range from $250 to $10,000. Contributions will stay in Hernando County to support the American Cancer Society's programs and services.
