The girls are backBy RYAN MEANY © St. Petersburg Times, published March 3, 2000 Area teen pop stars P.Y.T. will perform their single, Something More Beautiful, at 2 p.m. Saturday outside the main entrance to Citrus Park Town Center. After the concert, the group will be inside signing autographs from 2:30 to 4 p.m. The group's appearance is the highlight of a day's worth of events planned to mark the mall's one-year anniversary. Garbage-can percussionists Crash Bang Boom, the steel drum marching band Hammerhead and the stilt-walking 2nd Story Guys are also scheduled to perform. At 1 p.m. Jacqueline Clark, an eighth-grade science teacher at Ben Hill Middle School, is scheduled to arrive by limousine to begin a $2,000 shopping spree, her prize for being the mall's 10-millionth visitor on Jan. 3. Mall entertainment lasts from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. For information, call (813) 926-4600. * * *MUSIC AT ITS MOST: A mass of talent will coalesce in five pieces of music when the Florida Orchestra, conducted by Thomas Wilkins, plays compositions by University of South Florida students. Wilkins, a veteran who has stood before symphonies all over the world, has been awarded a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts and was named 1998 Music Educator of the Year by the Hillsborough County Elementary Music Educators. An Evening of Orchestral Music by USF Student Composers begins at 8 p.m. Saturday in Theatre 2 at USF, 4202 E Fowler Ave, as part of the USF Contemporary Music Festival 2000. Paul Porter of WWBA-AM 1040, the Talkchannel, will be hosting The Home Team and the USF Bullpen at Rocky's Sports Grill from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. He'll be giving away free lunches, gift certificates to other area restaurants and sports paraphernalia, including tickets to a University of South Florida basketball game against Memphis State.
