Jill and Louis Betz of Tampa have announced the opening of Duck Tours of Tampa Bay Inc. The venture gives visitors to The Pier a chance to tour both the streets and waters of downtown St. Petersburg in a "Duck," an amphibious vehicle used in World War II to transport personnel and supplies from ships to shores. Mr. and Mrs. Betz purchased four of the vintage car-boats after touring Boston in 1998.
Last week, the City Council approved a license for the business to sell tickets from a booth near The Pier. Friday was the first day of operation. Duck Tours will be open seven days a week. Tickets are $18.50 for adults and $9.95 for children between the ages of 3 and 12. There is a military and senior citizen discount, and children under 3 are free. For information, call 432-DUCK.
