Tampa, Eckerd get in Division II tournament

ST. PETERSBURG -- Florida Southern will have familiar company in the NCAA Division II men's tournament.

Tampa and Eckerd received at-large bids, and Florida Southern earned an automatic berth after winning the Sunshine State Conference tournament crown last week. Eckerd (22-7), which hosts the South Region, is the No. 2 seed and faces the winner of the opening-round game between Tampa (21-6) and Kentucky State (16-12).

Top seed Florida Southern (23-6) also receives a first-round bye and faces the winner of the game between West Georgia (21-7) and Henderson State (20-9).

The South Region tournament is scheduled for Thursday through Sunday. Times are to be determined today.

On the women's side, Tampa failed to receive a bid after losing in the second round of the Sunshine State Conference tournament.

SSC champion Rollins earned the automatic berth and Florida Southern (third seed) and Barry (sixth seed) received at-large bids for the South Region tournament, which will be played at Delta State in Mississippi.
