Shooting victim removed from life support; suspect soughtBy LEANORA MINAI © St. Petersburg Times, published March 6, 2001 ST. PETERSBURG -- A 26-year-old man who was shot in the head last week has died, making him the city's fifth homicide victim of the year. Larry Robert "BA-BA" Booth was disconnected from life support at Bayfront Medical Center at 2:33 p.m. Saturday, police said Monday. Booth, who lived in the 500 block of 27th Ave. S, would have celebrated his 27th birthday Thursday. "It's like a bad dream," said his sister, Peggy Booth, 33. "We just can't really get the hang of the fact that he's gone." Booth was shot about 3 a.m. Thursday in a house at 534 27th Ave. S in the Harbordale neighborhood. After the shooting, a neighbor informed Booth's father, Edward Booth, who lives across the street from his son. "I found my own baby in a pool of blood," said Booth, who was too upset to talk more. Police have not made an arrest. While detectives do not know of a motive, they said there is a possibility that the shooting could be over drugs. Booth, who had attended Osceola High School, was arrested on charges of possession of cocaine in 1992 and sale of cocaine in 1995. He pleaded guilty to the charges. "Regardless of what he did in his past, people change," his sister said. "Nobody's perfect." He was a former welder for Anvil Iron Co. and attended St. John Missionary Baptist Church. Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Gary Gibson at (727) 893-7512. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • St. Petersburg Times
