Lacy improves to 2-0 as a pro

Throughout Jeff Lacy's amateur career, the word was that Lacy would have more success as a professional boxer because of his punching power.

Boston super middleweight Tom Attardo might be willing to confirm that theory.

Lacy knocked down his opponent twice in the first round Friday night, scoring a knockout when a left hook at 1:41 sent Attardo down hard. Attardo (8-6-1) banged his head off the canvas and was unconscious briefly. It was several minutes before Attardo was able to stand and leave the ring.

"Sometimes I worry about hitting a guy so hard that I really hurt him," Lacy told the Las Vegas Review-Journal after the bout at the Texas Station Gambling Hall and Hotel in Las Vegas. "When I hit him with that left, I really worried a lot that he was hurt. That was the last thing I wanted to see."

It was the second first-round KO in as many fights for Lacy, a 2000 U.S. Olympian from St. Petersburg. In his pro debut last month, Lacy used a left hook to the ribs to knock out Jerald Lowe 2:00 into the bout.
