Candidate replyBy MARCELO CARUSO © St. Petersburg Times, published March 7, 2001 EDITOR'S NOTE: The Times gives candidates not recommended by its editorial board the opportunity to write a response for publication. The following response was received from Marcelo Caruso after the newspaper's recommendation of one of his opponents in Tuesday's Oldsmar city election. Marcelo CarusoI am writing in response to your recommendations for the Oldsmar elections. I am running for Seat 2 on Oldsmar City Council on Tuesday. I am upset by your statement that "he has much to learn about how a city government operates." However, you state that one of my opponents that you recommend "is not a particularly well-informed candidate." I feel that I have the basic understanding needed to run for the seat that I am seeking and feel that it is more important to have an understanding of what citizens want and try to use common sense in achieving goals on behalf of the city and citizens of Oldsmar. I feel that it is important for young people to be given the opportunity to get involved with local politics. I feel that being self-employed for the past 61/2 years and being able to support my family and business has given me a lot of experience. I feel that your continually attacking my past has no relevance on how I will be able to improve the lives of the citizens of Oldsmar and be their voice. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • Tampa Bay Times
