Cub Scouts to hold Pinewood Derby at mall

CRYSTAL RIVER -- About 40 Cub Scout dens from the Boy Scouts of America Withlacoochee District, which includes Citrus, Hernando and Sumter counties, will hold their Pinewood Derby at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Crystal River Mall. There will be displays and races. For information, call 795-2585.

Audubon Society event features eagle expert

LECANTO -- John White, a wildlife biologist involved with protecting bald eagles in Florida, will be the featured speaker at the March 19 meeting of the Citrus County Audubon Society. The meeting starts at 7 p.m. at the Lecanto Senior Citizen Center on County Road 491, nearly a mile south of the intersection with SR 44. White's slide program will include aerial photographs of his nesting surveys. His experiences include more than 12 years of work to help the bald eagle population recover in Florida. The meeting is free and open to the public. Call Ron Miller, 628-6066.
