Citrus in briefBy Times staff reports © St. Petersburg Times, published March 8, 2001 Audubon Society invites public to state park tourLECANTO -- The Citrus County Audubon Society plans a field trip to the Rainbow Springs State Park Wednesday. The state park is 3 miles north of Dunnellon on the east side of U.S. 41. Admission is $1. Society members should meet at 8:30 a.m. on the veranda in front of park's visitor center for a tour led by a park ranger. The park has a spectacular display of azaleas. Other features include a, phosphate pit, a Mastodon tooth found in the river, and birds. Stay for a picnic lunch, a swim in the spring water or rent a canoe or kayak. You don't have to be an Audubon member to enjoy field trips, they are open to anyone interested in birding and nature. Archaeology institute seeking new membersLECANTO -- The Gulf Archaeology Research Institute is looking for new members to help continue "Connecting the Past to Our Future." GARI is a non-profit organization that conducts research in the areas of historic, prehistoric and underwater archaeology.
