SPRING 2001 FAMILY WORKSHOP: The Exceptional Student Education Department invites you to the Spring 2001 Family Workshop from 8:30 to 11:45 a.m. Saturday at Lecanto Primary School. Workshops include exploring the Internet, helping your child at home, strategies for building self-esteem and Make-n-Take: Visual Supports. For information, call the ESE Department at 637-9710. For free child care or respite, call Sally Poteete at 637-3749.

BLACK RIBBON RALLY: Citrus County Students Working Against Tobacco will hold a Black Ribbon Day on Friday at Crystal River Middle School, Withlacoochee Technical Institute and the Renaissance Center. Activities will include the announcement of the winners of the poster and essay contests and a SWAT membership drive and canvas signing. Students and faculty will be asked to wear black ribbons to signify being tobacco free.

GREAT GATSBY GALA: Citrus High School Project Graduation will present the Great Gatsby Gala I with buffet and dancing from 7 to 11 p.m. March 31 at the McLeod House, 207 N Apopka Ave., Inverness. It will be a roaring '20s party, with all the proceeds going to the school's graduation night party. The cost is $35 per person, and space is limited to the first 250 tickets sold. Tickets are available at McLeod House or by calling 726-5115. Make checks payable to Project Graduation. Roaring '20s costumes are requested but not mandatory. There will be a costume contest, a silent auction, live entertainment, antique cars, a dance contest and a floral arrangement contest.

YOUTH WORLD SCHOLARSHIP: The Citrus County Fair Association will award three $500 scholarships to youths who exhibit in the Youth World Division of the fair. The applicants must be 14 by March 19, must be Citrus County residents and must turn in a completed application with an essay titled "My Youth World Exhibit" (300 words). Deadline is March 17. Applicants selected for personal interviews will be notified.

HIGH SCHOOL JOURNALISM PROGRAM: Students interested in journalism as a career are encouraged to apply to the Poynter Institute's High School Journalism Program, which consists of a summer workshop followed by monthly after-school seminars during the school year. The program is free and open to any Tampa Bay area high school student who will be a sophomore, junior or senior in fall 2001. Call Jeannie Nissenbaum at (727) 821-9400, ext. 240, for applications, which must be completed and postmarked by April 9.

PGE BOOK FAIR: Pleasant Grove Elementary School PTA will hold a book fair March 9-15 in the Media Center. Parents are welcome during regular school hours and during Open House, March 15. The PTA elections meeting will be April 4. For information, call 860-0327.
