Just for kids
The Children's Place, which sells clothing and accessories for children up to age 12, opened a new store in Tampa's WestShore Plaza last month. The retailer already has a store in St. Petersburg's Tyrone Square Mall and plans to open at Countryside Mall in Clearwater and Brandon TownCenter this spring.
Mossimo Giannulli, who parlayed his signature logo on a pair of surf shorts into a $100-million-a-year, Los Angeles-based clothing empire, is now designing exclusively for Target stores. The signature T-shirts that used to retail for as much as $70 are now $9.99. After taking his company public in 1996, making him the youngest CEO on the New York Stock Exchange, Giannulli found himself on a financial roller coaster. After his stock was delisted last May and his firm neared bankruptcy, he approached Target, which is taking care of manufacturing and everything else, freeing him to concentrate on design. The Mossimo Red label is more casual; the Mossimo Black label, dressier. Preceding Giannulli's fashions into Target were home collections by architect Michael Graves and interior designer Philippe Starck.
