CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Baron Davis scored 23 and had nine assists as the Hornets, playing without leading scorer Jamal Mashburn, beat the Magic 97-84 Thursday night.

Mashburn missed the game with a bruised sternum sustained in Tuesday's loss to Minnesota, but the Hornets won for the 10th time in 12 games.

Davis hit four of his five three-point attempts and had five rebounds.

David Wesley added 18 points and 10 assists and Elden Campbell shook off a sore right shoulder and a sore left knee to finish with 17 points and 11 rebounds.

Eddie Robinson, who replaced Mashburn in the starting lineup, had 12 points and eight rebounds.

Tracy McGrady had 19 points for the Magic, who failed to move ahead of the Hornets into fifth place in the Eastern Conference playoff race. Darrell Armstrong added 16 and Mike Miller had 15.

Charlotte took the lead for good in the second minute of the game, but never shook the Magic until Davis' three-pointer with 4:49 left made it 88-74.
