A closer look: One Hillsborough church

LOCATION: 4740 Wishart Blvd., Tampa (813) 870-0800
SERVICES AND PROGRAMS: Sunday Bible classes, 9:30 a.m., Sunday worship, 10:30 a.m., Sunday evening worship, 5 p.m., and Wednesday Bible classes for all ages, 7:30 p.m. On Sunday morning and Wednesday evening, the church offers Bible Lab for children up to high school who can read. The course is fundamental Bible teaching, and children progress at their own speed. The church also has Bible studies for women and a men's group.
HISTORY: The local congregation was chartered in 1958 and moved into the building shortly after.
LEADERSHIP: Robert Schales began at Seminole Church of Christ not two weeks ago, but he has 35 years of experience. The St. Petersburg resident says he has written several books and tracts. He is a graduate of Harding College in Arkansas, where he earned a master's of divinity degree. Schales has been married to Martha for 28 years, and they have a son, Christopher, 24.
RECENT SERMON TOPIC OR THEME: Topic of love. A lesson teaching one how to love the "unlovable."
MEMBERSHIP: About 150.
NOTABLE: There are no musical instruments in the church. The congregation sings hymns a cappella.
