Man struck, killed while changing tireTimes staff writer © St. Petersburg Times, published March 11, 2000 ST. PETERSBURG -- A Baltimore man apparently in town to attend a wedding was killed early Friday while changing a tire on the side of Interstate 275. Todd Norris, 32, was struck about 1:30 a.m. as he tried to fix a flat on a 2000 GMC sport utility vehicle in the shoulder of the southbound lane, near the exit for 38th Avenue N, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Authorities said he was struck by a car driven by Tina Marie Waldrep, 34, of 1901 45th St. N in St. Petersburg. According to a police report, she was driving south on I-275 when she swerved off the road and struck Norris. Her 1997 Pontiac also struck the side of the GMC, then hit a light pole before coming to a stop at the guardrail. She suffered a bump to the head and knee and was treated at the scene. No charges have been filed, but highway patrol Lt. Sterling King said the accident remains under investigation. Another man and two women in the GMC were not injured. Their names were not available.
