More school nurses supported©Associated Press © St. Petersburg Times, published March 11, 2000 Lawmakers on Friday pledged to work to fund more school nurses in three districts to prove that access to health care will help students stay healthier and learn more. The goal is to make about $1-million in state money available in each district -- Miami-Dade, Broward and Hillsborough -- to hire nurses or health aides for schools, said Rep. Sandra Murman. That's not enough money to get a nurse in every school in those districts -- but it can show the benefits of providing access to nurses and health aides, the Tampa Republican said. Sen. Ron Silver, a North Miami Democrat who is in charge of funding for health and social services in the Senate, was on hand to show his support. So was Rep. Debbie Sanderson, a Fort Lauderdale Republican who is the top budget writer for health and social services in the House. * * *
