An X by any other name . . .

X has been marking this spot since Jan. 17, 1995, when Xpress was born as the part of the St. Petersburg Times geared especially toward kid and teenage readers!

Of course, we know discerning young folk devour the rest of the paper, too, but Xpress has been your special territory, bringing stories, news and views about your world, mostly written by journalists ages 9 to 17 (our intrepid X-Team).
That's why now, six years into the life of Xpress, we're turning to you to help us with a terribly important assignment. The hardworking X appearing each week at the top of the page HAS NO NAME!
Around the office, we've referred over the years to "the X-Guy" or "the X-Person." (After all, who says X has to be male, despite that chromosome issue?)
But when the Times had the cool idea to turn X into an actual mascot that will make appearances at community events (including a visit to Tropicana Field for a Rays game) we knew we had to give X more of an identity.
What will it be? You tell us. We are seeking your most imaginative nominations for a name for X. Please submit the form below with your idea. Name suggestions must be tasteful (this is a family newspaper!), appropriate and clever. Explain your suggestion in 50 words or less (a bit shorter than the first two paragraphs in this story -- where's an editor when you need one?). The deadline for submissions is April 2. They may be sent via e-mail or regular mail (see form).
The winning name will be announced in Xpress later in April, and the winner will receive a cool Times T-shirt and get the chance to have your picture taken with X.
