The junior pitcher was at his best in a 5-1 win against Hernando.
In improving his record to 1-3, Metz, a right-hander, threw a one-hitter and struck out 11. Hernando went hitless until the sixth inning and failed to score until the seventh, when it picked up an unearned run.
Metz has three double-digit strikeout outings this season.
BASEBALL: Matt Andrews of Lecanto drove in two runs in a 6-4 win against South Sumter and blasted a two-run homer against Hernando.
Crystal River's Clayton Trenary tossed a four-hitter, recorded nine strikeouts and allowed two earned runs in a 6-4 win against Dunnellon. The following night, teammate Ryan Starkey pitched a four-hitter against Central.
SOFTBALL: Jill Bandhauer of Lecanto smacked a three-run homer and Dana Teller went 3-for-3 with a solo homer in a 10-0 win against Pasco.
Tabitha Schrufer of Citrus tossed a seven-inning shutout with nine strikeouts in a 2-0 victory over Crystal River. She then threw a one-hitter in a win against South Sumter.
TRACK AND FIELD: Jamal Galloway, a ninth-grader at Citrus, won the triple jump and long jump and was second in the high jump in a meet against Chiefland, Wildwood and Seven Rivers Christian. Teammate C.J. Bryant was first in the 800-meter run and the 1,600.
Myesha Hollis (100, 200, long jump, 4x100) and Sally Lanigan (shot put, discus) of Citrus were multiple-event winners in a meet against Lecanto, Chiefland, Seven Rivers Christian and Wildwood.
In the same meet, Kate Wheeler of Lecanto won the triple jump, high jump and 100-meter hurdles. Teammate Amanda Howard was first in the 800 and 1,600.
Crystal River's Peter Manzoli won the 800 and 1,600 and was on the winning 4x800 team in the Chiefland Invitational.
TENNIS: Andrea Hanson and Lindsay Horne of Citrus picked up singles victories and combined to win at No. 2 doubles in a 4-3 victory over Hernando. They repeated the performance in a 4-3 win against Springstead.
WEIGHTLIFTING: Jordan Darga (219), Clayton Swearingen (169) and Ryan McLure (129) recorded victories in the Citrus/Sumter Meet and led the Hurricanes to the title. Nathan Messier (119) of Crystal River and Harold Skidmore (139) and James Crossley (238) of Lecanto also produced first-place finishes.
