NEW PORT RICHEY -- A Pasco grand jury handed up first-degree murder indictments against a man and his girlfriend accused of killing 39-year-old David Broshar in his Port Richey apartment last month.

Pasco County Sheriff's Office investigators say Joseph Morales, 28, and Samantha Beach, 26, went to Broshar's apartment on Feb. 20 and attacked him when he opened the door. Morales punched and kicked Broshar, who grabbed a baseball bat and a machete to defend himself, authorities say.

Morales tackled Broshar and asked Beach to grab a pillow, detectives wrote in a report. Beach smothered Broshar's face in the pillow while Morales strangled him, authorities say.

Beach had once dated Broshar. Before the deadly attack, she told Morales that Broshar wanted to fight him, according to reports.

Beach of Port Richey and Morales formerly of Tampa were held without bail Tuesday in the county jail in Land O'Lakes.
