INVERNESS -- The Citrus County School Board on Tuesday approved a pilot incentive plan to reward school bus drivers who have perfect attendance.
The plan aims to cut down on the need to hire substitutes by offering regular bus drivers a $100 bonus for 45 consecutive days of perfect attendance.
The administrators had proposed using the final nine weeks of this school year as a pilot program to gauge whether the program should be implemented for the next school year.
Board member Pat Deutschman voted against the pilot, saying she was concerned about paying employees extra for doing the job they were already hired and paid to do.
