HOMOSASSA -- A 19-year-old man was arrested Saturday on charges of stealing two expensive Mongoose bicycles.
Terrence J. Cahill, of 8540 Kipling Lane, was charged with grand theft in the incident.
Citrus County sheriff's deputies said a neighbor called after he saw the two bikes in Cahill's back yard.
The neighbor told deputies he was suspicious because Cahill had been in trouble before and never rode a bike around the neighborhood, a report stated.
Cahill initially told deputies he had no idea about any bicycles behind his home. He later admitted that he knew about the bikes but didn't know who they belonged to. He said he found them on the side of the road, a report stated.
While deputies interviewed Cahill, the owners of the bicycles drove by in their van and asked why their children's bikes were at Cahill's house.
Cahill then told deputies he did steal the bikes. He said he intended to sell them but couldn't find a buyer, so he put them behind his house, a report stated.
The bicycles, a green and a chrome Mongoose racing bicycles, were returned to the owners.
Cahill was taken to Citrus County jail, where he remained Tuesday evening in lieu of $5,000 bail.
