DADE CITY -- Fire gutted a manufactured home Wednesday afternoon, pouring columns of smoke into the sky visible from downtown Dade City.

The fire was reported shortly after 5 p.m. at 11306 Ewing Drive. Neighbors said there was no one home at the time, and firefighters were not able to immediately confirm the name of the owner.

The fire destroyed most of the home, leaving a few walls standing.

Neighbor Betty Taylor said flames were leaping out of the roof and filling the sky with smoke when firefighters arrived.

"It was real black smoke just billowing up," she said.

Firefighters from Dade City and Zephyrhills responded to the scene. They said they had not determined the cause Wednesday night.

There were no injuries, firefighters said.
