The game was called with one out in the bottom of the seventh because of rain and lightning.

Lynch allowed four hits and walked two. His career high in strikeouts was eight.

Freshman catcher Tony Richie hit his first career homer in the fifth.

MORE COLLEGES: Hawaii football coach June Jones was released from a Honolulu hospital after sustaining serious head and internal injuries in an auto accident last month. OLYMPICS: The World Anti-Doping Agency told sports organizations to enforce last year's list of International Olympic Committee banned substances because the 2001 list has not been approved.

IDITAROD: Doug Swingley won his third straight sled dog race and his fourth overall. Swingley drove his team 1,100 miles from Anchorage to Nome, Alaska, in 9 days, 19 hours, 55 minutes, reaching Nome at 6:55 a.m. Wednesday.

SOCCER: Bayern Munich and Arsenal gained the last two spots in the European Champions Cup quarterfinals, with the German team beating the English club 1-0. Arsenal advanced because Lyon tied 1-1 at Spartak Moscow, giving Arsenal a better head-to-head record. ... Twenty-one people were treated at a hospital after crowd violence at a Champions Cup game between clubs from France and Turkey at Paris. The injuries were not serious, and none of the 21 was kept in the hospital overnight, police spokesman Gerard Dubois said. ... AC Milan fired coach Alberto Zaccheroni and replaced him with former Italy manager Cesare Maldini, a day after failing to qualify for the European Champions League quarterfinals. ... Los Angeles Galaxy defender Greg Vanney is expected to be out about a month after hernia surgery.

TENNIS: Venus and Serena Williams advanced to a semifinal match against each other at the Masters Series tournament in Indian Wells, Calif. Venus overpowered Elena Dementieva 6-0, 6-3, and Serena beat Lindsay Davenport 6-1, 6-2, her sixth win in eight matches against Davenport. ... Anna Kournikova withdrew from next week's Masters Series tournament in Miami with a foot stress fracture.

TRACK AND FIELD: Olympic 400-meter champion Cathy Freeman is taking a year off from competition. "I'm just looking to have a rest," the Australian said.

WINTER SPORTS: Per Elofsson won a men's 10-kilometer freestyle cross-country skiing race under the floodlights at Borlaenge, Sweden, and closed in on his first World Cup overall title. Elofsson leads Johan Muehlegg by 164 points. Each win is worth 100. Two races remain. ... Julia Tschepalova won a 5K freestyle cross-country race at Borlaenge and moved within 20 points of overall World Cup leader Bente Skari.
