Susan Duwa, 50, was riding her neon green Trek bicycle north on the Pinellas Trail when her head struck the side window of a 1993 Jeep driven by Samuel R. Garite, 18, of Crystal Beach, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The Jeep was heading south on Alt. U.S. 19 and turning onto Missouri Avenue about 2:30 p.m. when the accident occurred. Duwa was flown to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg, where she was in stable condition Thursday night. She was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, Palm Harbor fire rescue officials said. Body identified as missing manAuthorities have positively identified a body found last week in Charlotte County as that of Kenny Auletta, a Lealman firefighter-paramedic who disappeared while diving Feb. 21. Auletta, 26, was diving with other off-duty firefighters in the Gulf of Mexico about 6 miles off Clearwater Pass. The U.S. Coast Guard, the Pinellas Sheriff's Office and local fire departments searched for Auletta, but could not find him. A man walking on a beach in Charlotte County on March 8 found a body with diving equipment. Though authorities believed it was Auletta, dental records were needed to make a positive identification. That was made Thursday, said Sgt. Greg Tita, spokesman for the Pinellas Sheriff's Office. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • Tampa Bay Times
