SPIRIT OF LIFE ACTIVITIES: Spirit of Life Metropolitan Community Church, 4133 Thys Road, New Port Richey, will offer a leadership development workshop and an envisioning forum at 9 a.m. today. Positive approaches to change and the development of a five-year ministry plan will be discussed. In addition, a bake sale will be held after Sunday's 10:30 a.m. worship service. LAITY DAY: Allen Temple AME Church, 824 Leonard St., Brooksville, will have its third annual laity day at 4 p.m. Sunday. The New Hope Missionary Baptist choir will be highlighted, and the featured speaker will be Joseph Smiley, St. Petersburg district lay coordinator. The event will focus on the responsibility of the laity who, in the AME church, have equal power with the pastor: gaining membership in the church, the district and the conference. 75TH ANNIVERSARY: Nobleton Community Church, 29084 Sentinel St., Nobleton, will celebrate its 75th anniversary during the 11 a.m. worship service Sunday. Former pastors have been invited to speak, and memorabilia will include old newspaper clippings and photographs. A celebratory dinner will be served after the service in the fellowship hall. YARD SALE: Wesleyan Bible Conference Association, 8225 Wesley Drive, Brooksville, will sponsor a yard sale beginning at 8 a.m. Friday. Sale items, including household items, books, furniture, tools and clothing, will be available in front of the community center and Nicholson Center. Coffee and doughnuts will be sold. FOOD DRIVE: Helping Hands United will sponsor a food drive for its many ministries Monday through Thursday. Collection baskets will be available from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day at Winn-Dixie Marketplace, 2240 Commercial Way, Spring Hill. Residents and businesses may donate food items (a list will be provided) or purchase a $4 gift certificate for the drive. Radio station Spirit 90.5 FM, Tampa and 88.3 FM Lecanto will publicize the drive throughout the week and will broadcast live on Friday when all donations will be picked up by truck for delivery to ministries including the Dawn Center, Jericho Road Ministries, Widow's Oil and Gulf Coast Community Care. In addition, the Hernando Community Blood Bank mobile unit will be available to accept blood donations. For information call 683-9666.
ST. PATRICK'S DAY DINNER AND CRAZY CAROL: St. Anthony Catholic Church, 20428 Cortez Blvd., Brooksville, will sponsor a St. Patrick's Day dinner Sunday. Dinner will be served between 12:30 and 1 p.m. in Heffernan Hall. Corned beef, cabbage, potatoes and carrots will be the entree, followed by dessert and coffee. The deadline for tickets has passed; no tickets will be sold at the door and no carry-out dinners will be prepared. A dinner show featuring Crazy Carol will be held at 1 p.m. March 25. The menu will include ham, mashed potatoes, vegetables, salad, dessert and coffee. Tickets are $10 and reserved tables are available for groups of eight or more. GUEST SPEAKERS: Church of the Holy Spirit, 19255 Campground Road, Brooksville, will present Howard and Helen Tombs of Helfin, Ga., during Sunday's 11 a.m. worship service. The Tombs, evangelists and missionaries, have served in Guatemala, Nicaragua, Honduras, Mexico, India, Brazil, Scotland, England and Peru during the past 26 years. They will speak about their travels. On their next trip to Peru they will construct a church building before traveling to Cuba to assist and encourage local pastors. For information call 796-6589.
SILENT AUCTION AND DINNER: St. Joan of Arc, 13485 Spring Hill Drive, will host a silent auction and dinner sponsored by the Knights of Columbus Council 11317 Ladies Auxiliary. The event will begin at 6 p.m. March 24. The doors will open at 4:30 p.m. The entree will be chicken Parmesan. Tickets are $10 and must be bought before Monday. FUN AND FOOD FESTIVAL: Temple Beth David Jewish Center, 13833 E Linden Drive, Spring Hill, will have its seventh annual Israeli food and fun festival from noon to 4 p.m. March 25. The Young Judaea group will provide games and crafts for children, and there will be an Israeli dance demonstration. In addition, the gift shop will be open to offer many new items. DISCIPLESHIP HOUR: Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 1214 Broad St., Masaryktown, will add a discipleship hour at 9:15 a.m. each Sunday beginning March 25. Pastor David Brockhoff said the hour's activities and courses are "designed to bring people into the abundant life and fullness of joy that God wants us to have in his presence." SEEING THE UNSEEN CHRIST: Cornerstone Christian Church, 19832 County Line Road, Spring Hill, will launch a 50-day spiritual adventure. "Seeing the Unseen Christ: How His Presence Transforms Life" will be offered during the 9:30 a.m. Sunday school classes, the 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship services and the 7 p.m. Wednesday prayer and Bible study periods each Wednesday through April 15. Participants will work daily through journals, scriptures and lessons. All sermons will incorporate scriptures to be studied. The "Adventure" is an annual all-church spiritual growth event. SING, SING AND SING AGAIN: First United Methodist Church, 9344 Spring Hill Drive, Spring Hill, will present the Nature Coast Children's Festival Singers in Sing, Sing and Sing Again at 7 p.m. today. In addition to patriotic selections, music from the big band era, the '50s and Broadway tunes will be featured. Tickets at the door are $10 and proceeds will benefit the building fund. FRANKIE AND PHYLLIS VALENS: Brooksville Church of the Nazarene, 19834 Ingram St., Brooksville, will present Frankie and Phyllis Valens at 6 p.m. March 24. Valens, a nightclub singer during the 1950s and 1960s, was known for his recordings of This Magic Moment, Smoke Gets in Your Eyes, and She Cried. Phyllis Valens is a concert pianist and has written children's music for vacation Bible school courses for more than 20 years. She writes some of the music the couple sings, has presented piano concerts and also teaches piano. They traveled full time from 1990 through 1997 with their gospel music ministry before deciding to assist churches with music programs and are resuming their concert ministry. They have also performed at rescue missions, the Salvation Army and prisons. Food, fun and games will begin at 3 p.m. before the concert. For information call 796-4249.
