TAMPA -- Bubba the Love Sponge Clem has been suspended from his morning radio show on WXTB-FM 97.9 (98 Rock) for an indefinite period, an attorney for the station's owner, Clear Channel Communications, said Friday.

Bubba is not on vacation, as station colleagues said last week. The attorney, Brian Albritton, would not comment beyond confirming the suspension.

Hundreds of people have sent e-mails and letters to the station and to local law enforcement agencies objecting to the castration and slaughter of a wild boar during Bubba's show Feb. 27 in the station parking lot.

A handful of the station's advertisers have pulled ads in protest. Tampa police are investigating whether the stunt constituted animal cruelty.
