Rush, DuPont capture All-Star honors

CLEARWATER -- The Qunisha Rush Basketball Clinic is open to individual sessions at "no charge," said the pint-sized, energetic Lakewood point guard.

But for this year's Pinellas County Athletic Conference All-Star game, Rush played to a group seminar as her Black team bruised the Blue team 96-62 Saturday in the annual classic at Clearwater Central Catholic.

"It's a wonderful way to end my career," said Rush, who ended with 13 assists and 17 points. "I go out there with all of my heart and I just play with everything."

For her fast-paced and crowd pleasing efforts, Rush received the game's Hustle Award.

Catherine DuPont was named the game's MVP with 12 points, 14 rebounds and aggressive defensive play in the post, recording five blocked shots for her Black team.

"We were out there to have a good time," said Blue team coach Rob Odom. "But DuPont and Rush were just too good tonight."

This year's game was organized in a straight draft, so a couple of players found themselves competing against teammates from the regular season.

Lexi Roegiers-Jensen from Pinellas Park led all scorers with 20 points for the Black team while Lauren Karfonte from Boca Ciega paced the Blue team with 10.

St. Petersburg Catholic coach Nick Vanderwalle received the PCAC Coach of the Year award. In the Classic game, played earlier between other county seniors, the North defeated the South 58-43.
