ST. PETERSBURG -- Two men were killed Saturday in separate accidents when they were struck by cars while riding their bicycles.

In the first accident, which occurred Saturday afternoon, Curtis Leon Edwards, 45, was riding his bike south on 43rd Street S when he rode in front of a 1985 Cadillac traveling west on Fifth Avenue S.

The Cadillac, traveling 35 to 40 mph, was driven by Renardo H. Thomas, 26, of St. Petersburg. He braked and swerved, but still hit Edwards.

Edwards was knocked into another lane, where he was hit by a 1983 Buick driven by Brian Elliott Cooper, 27, of St. Petersburg.

Edwards was taken to Bayfront Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead about 4 p.m. Neither driver was injured, and the investigation is continuing.

In the other accident, William H. Davis Jr., 57, of 2438 28th St. N, was riding his bicycle south on the west sidewalk of 28th Street N.

He tried to cross 28th Street, heading east, but was struck by a 1983 Cadillac southbound on 28th Street N. The Cadillac was driven by Bradley S. Hollinger, 32, of 3240 39th St.

Davis hit the windshield of the Cadillac and was thrown onto the roadway. Davis was taken to Bayfront Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 5:12 p.m. The Cadillac's driver was not injured.

The investigation is continuing.
