Paint-out set for Thursday

The Brandon League of Fine Arts will have a "paint-out"at 9 a.m. Thursday. Painting will be at Hoot Owl Holler Ranch, which will feature the following things to paint: cows, an old house, an old shed, hay rake, hay bales, trees, flowers, sugarcane mill and a molasses cauldron. The ranch is located off Guiles road, behind Bloomingdale High School. For information, call (813) 685-8888.

Premarital preparation classes

Tampa Jewish Family Services, 13009 Community Campus Drive, offers classes to help couples preparing for marriage. "Making Marriage Succeed" is a four-session, one-hour class that includes topics such as exploring realistic views of marriage, developing an understanding of differences, improving communications and sharing goals. The cost is $50 per couple and upon completion, qualifies for a marriage license certificate discount. For information, call (813) 960-1848.

Father-son duo in concert

A father-and-son duo will appear in concert at 11 a.m. Sunday at the Lake Carroll Baptist Church, 12012 N Rome Ave. Admission is free, and a love offering will be taken. For information, call (813) 933-5683.

Network of Christian Women meets

The Network of Christian Women will meet from noon to 1 p.m. March 28 at the Embassy Suites, 3705 Spectrum Blvd., just off Fowler Avenue near the University of South Florida. Book talk: 'The Love of God'

The staff at the Ruskin Branch Library, One Dickman Drive, will lead a book discussion on The Love of God by Alice Munro. This free program is at 2 p.m. Wednesday. Church benefit concert

St. John's Episcopal Church, 906 S Orleans Ave., is having an annual benefit concert. The dinner and "2001 Choral Odyssey" is at 5 p.m. Sunday. The music is by J.S. Bach, Ralph Vaughan Williams and Phillip Moore with the St. John's Choir of Men and Boys, St. John's Choir of Jr. and Sr. Girls and the Mendelssohn Choir. Author reads, signs book

Mark Winegardner will read and sign Crooked River Burning at 7 p.m. Monday at Inkwood Books, 216 S Armenia Ave. Winegardner is the director of the creative writing program at Florida State University. He is the author of The Veracruz Blues, along with three nonfiction books, and contributes regularly to Esquire and other magazines. For information, call (813) 253-2638.

Assertiveness workshop for women

The Centre for Women, 305 S Hyde Park Ave., is having an assertiveness workshop for women. This class teaches participants the difference between passive, aggressive and assertive behavior.
