Girl on skates hospitalizedBy Times staff writer © St. Petersburg Times, published March 21, 2000 DUNEDIN -- A 15-year-old girl wearing inline skates was taken by helicopter to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg on Monday after she was found on the ground having a seizure, authorities said. It was unclear Monday night whether the girl, Brittany Smith, was injured when she fell off her skates or if she suffered solely from a seizure, said Pinellas sheriff's Sgt. Greg Tita. No address was available for Smith. The girl was transferred to All Children's Hospital. The girl's family asked that no information about her condition be released. A passer-by called authorities at 10:31 a.m. after seeing the girl on the ground at Belcher Road and State Road 580, said Scott Magness, a Dunedin Fire Department deputy chief. She was not wearing a helmet, Magness said, but did not appear to have serious injuries. Nevertheless, she was flown by helicopter because she was having seizures, Magness said.
