Ballet company to perform Peter PanThe West Florida Ballet Company will perform Peter Pan at 6 p.m. Sunday at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center, 1010 WC MacInnes Place N. Kidney disease survivor seminar at TGHSuncoast Friends will sponsor an educational seminar for kidney disease survivors from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday. The seminar, "How to Be a Polycystic Kidney Disease Survivor," will be held in Room E222 and E223 (second floor) at Tampa General Hospital on Davis Islands. Nephrologist Germain Rameriz will speak on basic PKD information and how to become a survivor. The Rev. Allen Poindexter will speak about being a good caregiver/support person to a PKD survivor. The seminar will include a question-and-answer session. Refreshments will be served. Also, there will be a drawing for a $25 gift certificate to Chili's Restaurant. Clayton Galleries hosts receptionClayton Galleries, 4105 S MacDill Ave., will host an opening reception for the works of more than 30 self-taught artists. The reception will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. The exhibit, titled "Contemporary Folk Expressions," will be on display through April 21. The exhibition, curated by Jeanne Kronsnoble, owner of Main Street Gallery in Clayton, Ga., will feature the works of folk artists, also known as self-taught or outsider artists. The common thread of their works is derived from the similarities between the artists themselves and the collective spirit of the work they produce. The motivation for their works often comes from religious inspiration, memories or everyday surroundings, from junkyard scraps to tree branches. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. For information, call (813) 831-3753. Citizen board applications soughtThe deadline for residents interested in seeking appointments to citizen boards is Thursday. Hillsborough county commissioners are seeking volunteers to serve on a wide variety of citizen advisory boards and councils. Applicants must be registered voters in Hillsborough County and will serve without compensation. Applications are available in the commissioners' reception area on the second floor of County Center, 601 E Kennedy Blvd. Appointments will be scheduled for a meeting of the Board of County Commissioners in April or May. Volunteer positions are open on the following panels: Child Care Facilities Advisory Board; Consumer Protection Board; Health Care Advisory Board; Cross Connection, Backflow and Back-Siphonage Control Board; Health Council of West Central Florida, (District VI Health Council); Historic Resources Review Board; Housing Finance Authority; Library Advisory Board; Natural Resources and Landscaping Appeals Board; and the Plumbing Board of Adjustment, Appeals and Examiners. TransWorld's Cattle Barons' Ball setThe Greater Tampa Unit of the American Cancer Society will sponsor its fourth annual TransWorld's Cattle Barons' Ball at the Florida State Fairgrounds on U.S. 301 N. A VIP party will begin at 6 p.m. Saturday, with the ball at 7 p.m. Highlights of the event will include gaming, pig races, dancing, putting green, live entertainment and shopping. Outback Steakhouse will cater the food. There also will be a silent and live auction with prizes, including getaways, sporting events and gift baskets. Tickets are $150. All proceeds from the event will go to to the Greater Tampa Unit of the American Cancer Society and will be used for local patient services and cancer research.
