Focus on volunteers

Gulf Coast Community Care's Permanency Support Program matches volunteers with children between the ages of 3 and 11 who live in state foster homes because of abuse and neglect. They are in need of people to spend up to four hours each week with a child. The goal is for the adult to build trust and provide support through social interaction. For information, call Gulf Coast Community Care at 538-7460.

The Tampa Bay Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation is looking for volunteers to assist in the 2001 Walk to Cure Diabetes on March 31. Walk events are located in both Pinellas and Hillsborough counties. For information, call Carole Carson at 344-2873.

American Stage is looking for volunteers to assist with Shakespeare in the Park from April 6 to May 12 at Demens Landing in downtown St. Petersburg. This year's production is Love's Labor's Lost. Volunteers are needed to take telephone ticket orders at the American Stage office, 211 Third St. S. Volunteers also are needed on performance nights in Demens Landing to collect tickets and work in the concession booths. For information, call American Stage at 823-1600, ext. 201.

The South Pinellas District Council of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, 6950 49th St. N, Pinellas Park, is in need of volunteers to assist with loading trucks and delivery. For information, call Ron Frank at 525-6055. The Society of St. Vincent de Paul also needs help at the Food Center, 757 Arlington Ave. N, St. Petersburg. Needs include food preparers, servers and those willing to do cleanup duty. For information, call Mary Hausman at 823-2516.
