Saint Leo senior selected as Student of Year finalistBy Times staff writer © St. Petersburg Times, published March 22, 2001 SAINT LEO -- Saint Leo University senior Sarah Hard has been named by Florida Leader magazine as one of seven finalists for Florida College Student of the Year, school officials said. The 14th annual award, which recognizes student leaders, will be announced April 13 in Tallahassee. Hard, Saint Leo University's student government president, has been named Saint Leo freshman, sophomore, junior and senior of the year. She has also served as a student ambassador, resident assistant, student chaplain and was a member of the cross country team. She is a social work major from Sarasota and has done volunteer work. The winner will receive $4,000 and other prizes, including gift certificates and a weekend in Key West, contest organizers said. All finalists will receive $2,750 and other prizes, including two airline tickets. About 140 students applied, organizers said. Hard is one of two students from Pasco schools to be named as top 20 student leaders. Nancy McGrotty of Pasco-Hernando Community College received honorable mention.
