It's Chasco Fiesta time
The 79th annual edition of Chasco Fiesta kicks off today for an 11-day stay through April 1 in downtown New Port Richey. More than 100,000 people are expected to attend the various events.
Highlights include a Native American Festival, a giant barbecue and a carnival at 5 p.m. today, all day Friday and Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday; the Chasco street parade at 1 p.m. Saturday; a classic car show from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and a river raft race at 1 p.m. Sunday; the state's oldest boat parade at 1:30 p.m. March 31; and a country concert featuring Collin Raye at 7 p.m. March 31. Free nightly entertainment will be from 5:30-10:45 p.m. Friday (Variety Night); 5-11 p.m. Saturday (rock 'n' roll night); 2-7:45 p.m. Sunday (Catch a Rising Star); 6-10 p.m. Monday (bluegrass bands); 6-9 p.m. Tuesday (Radio Disney); 5:45 p.m. Wednesday (Broadway Review featuring Jimmy Ferraro and Dee Etta Rowe); 6-11 p.m. March 29 (Rhythm and Bluesmasters); 7-11 p.m. Friday (Contemporary Christian Music Night); 7 p.m. March 31 (Collin Raye, ticket information above); and 2-4 p.m. April 1 (Big Band Music in the Park).
A street carnival will be open 5 to 10 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, 5-11 p.m. Fridays, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m Saturdays and 1 to 6 p.m. Sundays. There is also a baby beauty contest Sunday, Kiwanis Flea Market Monday and Tuesday, bicycle tour and 10K, 5K and 1 mile Fun Run on March 31, stamp show and arts and crafts fair March 31 and April 1.
