Winners chosen in Wesley Chapel pageant

Heather Johnson was selected as Miss Wesley Chapel at a pageant held Friday at the Tampa Bay Golf and County Club March 16. Ashley-Claire Sims was voted Miss Teen Wesley Chapel and Heather Anderson was chosen as Junior Miss Wesley Chapel. The pageant was held in conjunction with the Wesley Chapel Community Festival.

Women's club meeting to address safety, CPR

Members of the Lutz-Land O'Lakes Women's Club will hold their general meeting at 9:30 a.m. today at the Land O'Lakes Community Center on U.S. 41. The program will be on safety and CPR. The fire chief and assistants from the Land O'Lakes Fire Department will discuss home safety and give a CPR demonstration. The public is invited, and refreshments will be served. Bowl for Kids' Sake scheduled for April 7

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Pasco will hold its annual Bowl for Kids' Sake on April 7 at Lane Glo North in Port Richey. Needed are team captains to choose four friends, relatives or co-workers to eat pizza and win prizes as they bowl on a five-person team. Each team member is asked to obtain a minimum of $100 in pledges, and any pledges of $5 or more can be collected by the agency. Pledges may be for flat sums or "per pin" amounts. Because many of the participants do not bowl on a regular basis, the agency automatically guarantees a score of 100 to any participant. Citizens for Sanity meeting Wednesday

Citizens for Sanity will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Pasco Professional Center, 4111 Land O'Lakes Blvd. The group is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to improve the quality of life and government in Pasco County. For information, call (813) 996-5575.

SCORE hosting workshop for small businesses

SCORE Chapter 439, serving Pasco and Hernando counties, will host a workshop from 6 to 9 tonight at the New River Branch Library, 34043 State Road 54 in Wesley Chapel. The "Advertising for Small Business" workshop is designed to meet the needs of start-up businesses with a limited budget as well as existing small and medium businesses. Products and services will both be covered. An outline on how to budget, evaluate media and plan advertising will be provided, and attendees will lay out a newspaper ad, create a direct mail piece and discuss how to design a Web site. On Saturday, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., a seminar on how to start up a new Florida small business will be held at the SCORE office, located in the Bank of America Building, 6014 U.S. 19, Suite 302 in New Port Richey. Topics include how to complete and file an application for an occupational license, how to register and protect your company's fictitious trade name, how to obtain a state sales tax number and how to for a federal employer identification number. Chamber of Commerce members to network

Members of the Central Pasco Chamber of Commerce are networking with each other at 7:30 a.m. each Tuesday at Your Printer, 1900 Land O'Lakes Blvd., Suite 113. Members are encouraged to bring brochures and business cards to exchange. For information, call (813) 909-9500.

Lifeguard training course scheduled for April 6-8

The Pasco County Parks and Recreation Department will present a lifeguard training course, including first aid and CPR, April 6-8 at the Land O'Lakes Recreation Complex, 3032 Collier Parkway. Minimum age to participate is 16. Cost is $25. For information, call (813) 929-1220.

Suncoast Sampler set for April 1

The Suncoast Sampler, a food tasting event, is scheduled from 7 to 9 p.m. April 1 at the Gulf View Square Mall in New Port Richey. Chefs from more than 25 restaurants in Pasco and Hernando counties will serve samples of their specialties at the event. Some of the participating restaurants include Boston Cooker, Carrabba's Italian Grill, Chili's, Hops, Hooters and Outback Steak House. Tickets are $25 in advance or $30 at the door. There will be food, beverages, door prizes and entertainment provided by the Show Palace Dinner Theatre and Gulf High School Jazz Band.
