Brotherly bonding
Director Gary Hardwick has jokingly referred to his new film as Refusing to Exhale, indicating the African-American male perspective at the core of The Brothers. Three lifelong friends (Morris Chestnut, D.L. Hughley, Shemar Moore) reunite when a fourth (Bill Bellamy) announces his plans for marriage. They embark on a last round of male bonding, from bars to basketball courts, until it's time to walk down the aisle. The Brothers is notable for portraying the black upper-class, with respected professionals replacing the street-hood mentality of too many films. The film wasn't screened in time for Weekend's deadline, so please see Friday's St. Petersburg Times for a review.
