EAST LAKE -- A local man landed in jail early Thursday after a fistfight at Egret's Landing Apartments escalated into a shooting. Christopher Fallenbeck, 23, who lives at the complex at 1484 Seagull Drive, was charged with attempted first-degree murder. He was held at the Pinellas County Jail without bail. According to sheriff's officials and arrest reports, Fallenbeck and Sean Conway, 20, argued at the complex about 4:30 a.m. and then began fighting. Fallenbeck is accused of pulling a 9mm handgun during the fight. The two men struggled over the gun and five shots were fired. No one was injured. Sheriff's deputies responding to calls about shots fired stopped and arrested Fallenbeck as he was driving from the complex.

Cypress Woods school evacuated

EAST LAKE -- A rotten egg smell thought to be a propane leak in the cafeteria kitchen forced the students and staff at Cypress Woods Elementary School to evacuate the building for about 30 minutes Thursday morning. East Lake Fire and Rescue personnel called to the scene found no leak, only a low propane tank that had emitted a strong scent when workers attempted to light up a pasta and vegetable steamer to make the day's lunch. The school is scheduled to switch over to natural gas April 17 during spring break.
