Gulfport sets limits on watering
© St. Petersburg Times, published March 24, 2000 GULFPORT -- Gulfport residents will have to adhere to the same water restrictions as the rest of Pinellas County, city officials announced Thursday. Gulfport officials are restricting lawn watering to one day a week for sprinklers that are hooked up to the county's water system. Residents who have even-numbered addresses can water yards on Tuesdays, while residents with odd-numbered addresses can water on Sundays. No watering is allowed between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Residents with private wells may water two days a week, city officials said. Those with even-numbered addresses can water on Tuesdays and Saturdays, while those with odd-numbered addresses can water on Wednesdays and Sundays. Each day, no one can water between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Residents with reclaimed water can irrigate any day of the week, at any time. Car washing is allowed at any time, as long as residents use a hose with a shut-off nozzle. New sod can be watered for up to 30 days after it's installed, but the watering must be done during the approved days and hours, Gulfport officials said. Gulfport police and firefighters will enforce the restrictions. Violators can be hit with fines ranging from $60 to $500.
