Designer digs: The Florida Orchestra Guild shows off its 27th annual Designer Showcase home -- a 5,600-square-foot, three-story "city home" at Vinoy Place, 585 Fifth Ave. NE, St. Petersburg. Decorated by interior designers from the Tampa Bay area, the home is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. Sundays through April 14. Informal modeling, musical entertainment and boutique with lunch are available daily; English tea on Sundays. Proceeds benefit the Florida Orchestra. $8 advance, $10 door. Call 898-4819.

Music in the marly: Cellist Scott Kluksdahl performs at 2 p.m. in the Museum of Fine Arts, 255 Beach Drive NE, St. Petersburg. Works include a world premiere for cello and piano by American composer William Wiedrick, Cello Sonato by Benjamin Britten, and Mendelssohn's sonata in D Major. $15, $7 students 22 and younger. German heritage day: The United German-American Society of Florida holds its 10th annual German Heritage Day Festival beginning at 11:30 a.m. in the Coliseum, 535 Fourth Ave. N, St. Petersburg. Food service begins at noon and festivities follow with a parade of flags at 2 p.m. The Hafenkappelle, a 36-piece band from Cape Coral, and German pop star Vanessa perform throughout the day. Pioneer jamboree: Demonstrations of pioneer activities include blacksmithing, corn-grinding, goat-milking and rope making. Passport to the good life: tHe Good Life Games kick off at 8:30 a.m. with a continental breakfast in the Shuffleboard Room of the Sunshine Center, 330 Fifth St. N, St. Petersburg. Demonstrations of lawn bowling, shuffleboard and Tai Chi. Games include pool, bingo, chess and horseshoes. Sidewalk sale 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and a Senior Stars Showcase talent show at 1:30 p.m. Passport $2.50, breakfast and passport $5. Call 893-7622.

The wild west: Nan Colton, local artist and storyteller, shares the story of "Tess and the Wild West Show," which recalls the days of radio, Annie Oakley and Teddy Roosevelt, 1:30 p.m. at the Princess Martha, 411 First Ave. N, St. Petersburg. Call 894-6788.

"The belle of Amherst': Five-time Tony winner Julie Harris plays the role of Emily Dickinson in this one-woman interpretation of the poet's life at 8 p.m. tonight and tomorrow in the Bayfront Center's Mahaffey Theater, 400 First St. S, St. Petersburg. Harris won a Tony Award for this Broadway performance in 1977. $27.50-$47.50. Call 892-5767.

Art of the spirit, understanding each other through art: The Museum of Fine Arts presents a series of programs to foster mutual understanding and respect for diverse spiritual faiths and cultural traditions through art. Naomi McCord speaks on "Beacons of Light, Bahai Houses of Worship and the Bahai World Center" at 7 p.m. Free. Reservations suggested, seating is limited. Butterfly festival: Sunken Gardens, 1825 Fourth St. N, St. Petersburg, celebrates spring with a day of family activities and a chance to be surrounded by hundreds of butterflies, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and April 1. Observe the life cycles, behavior and habitats in an open-air butterfly aviary. Learn how to attract these colorful insects by planting the right host and nectar plants, which will be on sale. Garden tours, entertainment, petting zoo, wildlife presentations, storytelling, children's crafts and face painting. Free with park admission. Call 551-3100.

An evening with Marvin Hamlisch: A Florida Orchestra Super Pops Concert at 8 p.m. features tributes to Streisand and Porter, excerpts from Sophie's Choice and A Chorus Line and Hamlisch's Rent-a-Composer routine, where he spontaneously composes songs based on titles shouted out by the audience at the Bayfront Center's Mahaffey Theater, 400 First St. S, St. Petersburg. $20-$38.
